Terms of Use
OiYOi only helps you find people. We don't handle money, take a cut or guarantee any deal. No harassment, no scams and no paying people to write your work or sit your exams, or you'll be banned. If you meet up or travel with people, your safety is yours to look after.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of OiYOi (oiyoi.org). OiYOi is currently run by its founder as an individual; the company hasn't been registered yet. Operator: Yubo Song. By signing up, you agree to these terms.
1. Who can use OiYOi
- You must have a valid university student email address and have verified it;
- You must be 18 or over.
If your email can't be verified or stops working (for example, your university closes it after you graduate), we may ask you to verify again or limit how you can use OiYOi.
2. Your account
- One person, one account: don't create extra accounts, and don't buy, sell or lend accounts.
- Handles: we give you a seagull handle, and you can add a nickname. Don't use either to impersonate someone or to slip in anything against the rules.
- Keep your account safe: don't send your verification codes or log-in links to anyone (our admins won't ask for them either), and log out when you've finished on a shared computer. If something looks wrong with your account, contact us straight away through the reporting channel. We'll assume anything done on your account was done by you, so please look after it.
3. Rules you mustn't break (or you'll be banned)
We have zero tolerance for the following. Once confirmed, the account is banned straight away, and in serious cases we'll cooperate with law enforcement as the law requires:
- Harassing, abusing, doxxing or threatening anyone;
- Scams, or tricking people out of money or belongings in any way;
- Academic cheating deals, such as paying for or offering essay-writing, exam-sitting or attendance sign-ins;
- Illegal trading (banned goods, forged documents, black-market currency exchange and so on);
- Selling or buying sex, and pornographic content;
- Posting false information, impersonating anyone or sending advertising in bulk.
4. If something goes wrong (reporting, blocking and our promise)
You have two tools, and they solve different problems:
- Report ("Report" on a post): hands it over to us. Use it when someone has actually broken the rules.
- Block (in the report sheet, or under Me → Blocked people): you disappear from each other, straight away and with no reason needed. Use it when they haven't broken any rules but you don't want to see them again, which is actually the more common case.
Our promise: we deal with reports within 24 hours of receiving them. If we confirm a breach, we'll remove the content and ban the account. We also automatically block obviously prohibited content, but please bear in mind that automatic filters stop people posting on a whim, not people who are determined. So if something looks wrong, please report it. That's the part that really works.

5. What you post
- It's yours: you keep the rights to your posts, photos and messages.
- You let us show it: so OiYOi can work, you give us a non-exclusive, free licence, only to store, show and recommend what you post on OiYOi. We won't license it to anyone else commercially.
- When you delete content or your account, we stop showing it (except for snapshots other people have saved under the rules; see our Privacy Policy).
6. What OiYOi does (and doesn't do)
OiYOi is a platform that puts people in touch: it helps you find students who can help each other out. We:
- don't handle any money or take a cut: all deals, bill-splitting and payments are private matters between you;
- don't guarantee that anyone is who they say they are (email verification only shows they're a student in the UK), the quality of any item, or that anyone will keep their word;
- don't take part in your in-person activities: meet-ups, lift shares, second-hand sales and trips are at your own risk.
Practical advice: where money or valuables are involved, check the important things face to face. Meet somewhere public the first time, and tell a friend your plans. We're not just saying this, so please take it seriously.
7. Disclaimers and limits on our liability
- OiYOi is provided "as is". It's a free mutual-help project run by an individual, and we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
- As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for disputes between users over deals, or for losses at in-person activities. For indirect losses from using OiYOi, our liability is limited to the minimum the law allows.
- This doesn't cover liability that UK law doesn't allow us to exclude (such as personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud).
8. Ending things
- You can delete your account in the app at any time (Me → Delete account), and your data will be deleted as set out in our Privacy Policy;
- We can warn, restrict or ban accounts that break the rules in section 3;
- If OiYOi closes down altogether, we'll tell you in the app in advance and delete data as set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
