Student noteThe Carlton Hill branch in Edinburgh has a lovely old domed skylight, mostly filled with local older regulars having a quiet chat. The signature red wine braised venison was tender but didn't quite win me over, while the seasonal fish and the corn starter were better surprises. Walk-ins have a time limit on their table, so it's worth booking ahead to get the full two hours.
